Speak volume not balanced

I'm trying to set up two more speakers and a subwoofer on my laptop. After 20 minutes of messing with the settings, I got it to work... kind of. The left speaker barely makes any sound at all while the right speaker works perfectly fine. And my second problem is that the subwoofer does not work at all either.

Maybe it's my laptop, maybe it's the speakers, can anyone help me? Thanks.

What kind of speakers do you have and how are you connecting them to your laptop?

They're Harman/Kardon speakers and they're connected via the headphone jack. The two speakers are connected by a wire and the right speaker has a satelite wire that connects to the subwoofer and the subwoofer has a green cord that connects to my headphone jack (Speakers > Subwoofer > Headphone jack). Hope that helps!

Check your sound settings and make sure there is not balance control set off to one side. When you plug headphones into your laptop does it sound normal? Try plugging the speakers into another device with a headphone jack like an MP3 player and see if the same thing happens. It may be that the speakers are defective.

Thank you, I just played it with my ipod and found another clue to the puzzle... If I jiggle the volume nob to the right it plays fine... Soooo weird. I think the connections are just screwy. Maybe a little duct tape will fix this lol
