DVD/VHS/TV hook-up

I have a new Panasonic TV and a new Panasonic DVD recorder. The book shows how to connect them together with a VHS tape recorder, but I have had no luck. Ordered a component cable and it has red/green & blue ends while the jacks on the DVD and VCR are red/white & yellow. How do I know which one to plug it into or is this the wrong cable. Anybody have a wiring diagram?

You can use the red/green for red/white (audio) and the blue for yellow (video).

The colors don't actually have any affect on anything...they just help you keep track of what gets plugged into where.

Red/white and yellow is composite video and stereo audio, not component video.

If your equipment has component video available, you should use that over composite.

The cable you have is usable for either - but if you use it for component video, you will need an additional double cable (red/white) for the audio. Red/white is audio, yellow is composite video, and RGB is component video.

This is why I made sure my TV, cable box, and DVD player all have HDMI. Makes things a LOT simpler - a single cable carries both audio and high definition video.

You can use S-video, but you will still need the red/white for audio.
