video playing slow when copied to external hard drive
Hi,
I've been putting some old home movies from vhs tapes onto my pc and then converting the films to .avi so I can put them onto dvd's. There were so many that I had to get an external hard drive in the end as I was rapidly running out of space. The problem I have now though is that when I copy over a file with these home videos on, onto the external hard drive, they play in slow motion in media player but the audio is fine. It's not a problem when I play a file from my c drive only from the external hard drive. I have already had the problem of not being able to put more than about 40 mins worth of a video onto the hard drive because of the type of file system so I found out that I had to convert from FAT to NTFS which I have done. The hard drive is a western digital 1TB and I have windows vista. Does anybody have any advice? Thanks. Last edited by Guppy; 09-01-2009 at 08:34 AM. Reason: To add more information |

Still there?
I had a similar problem, WD Mybook USB connected to a machine running XP SP3. I can stream over the network from the machine's internal drives, but not the external. Gotta be a bottle neck w/ the USB. Also, those external drives usually are only 5400RPM, w/ small cache. Pick up a new SATA internal, I just got a 1TB WD Caviar black SATA for $89 fron newegg.com. I'm using the USB for backups (not for long, it will fill up quick).
