display driver keeps failing

Hi I am an ICT Tech in a school. In one of the computers when i put it on and it reaches the desktop every few seconds the monitor keeps cutting off and coming back on. I keep seeing this error message Display driver failed and has successfully recovered!!! Why is this happening? Do i need to update the driver? The computer is a Lenovo ThinkCentre. Do I have to download the driver and instal it via safe mode? what is causing this? We are running windows vista

You'll hate this but it's only 2 options if that network is working correctly ( If it isn't you just one of many problems. ) : The video on the computer is failing, or the OS needs a re-install.

Is the PC rebooting, or is the monitor just turning on and off?

Try a different monitor first.

did that same problem. I even restored the pc to factory settings and the problem still remains. could this mean that it is a hardware issue eg motherboard.....the pc works fine in safe mode. i tried changing the display settings but it did not help

It's either a motherboard (assuming onboard video) or display driver issue - or it's trying to force a resolution and/or refresh rate the monitor doesn't like.

You could try a cheap video card and see if that fixes it.

Update the video driver. If this doesn't fix it, install a cheap video card.
