1080p tv as PC monitor
I bought an off brand 32" 1080p tv to play games with, thinking I could run games at 1920 x 1080.
The problem with this tv is the plastic that frames the tv actually covers some of the lcd along the top and sides cutting off the desk top and forcing me to resize it. You wouldn't be able to tell with movies and stuff but can when useing it as a monitor. I'm just woundering if the company has pulled a fast one (or engeneering mistake) or if this is normal for lcd tv's? Thanks |

Is it connected through VGA, DVI, or HMI?

It's connected DVI to HDMI from Nvidia GTX 285
Sorry for lack of info I was in a hurry before work this morning. Thanks! Last edited by KAD; 09-05-2009 at 01:02 PM. |

It is very unlikely that the frame is covering part of the screen. That was an issue with CRTs but not flat panels. Your problem is with overscan. What brand/model is the TV?
Even if your TV doesn't have overscan adjustments you can adjust it in the Nvidia Control Panel. I don't have my TV connected at the moment so I can't access the controls but it should be pretty straight forward. It should look something like THIS.

Yeah, sorry I actually originally posted about being able to easily resize desktop but when I added a program for spell check on PC Mech it cleared everything I had written so I hastily posted another.
![]() Resizing is no prob but I bought the tv to use at 1920 X 1080 not 1838 x 1058. The tv brand is FAVI. Bought on Amazon. |

I looked through the manual and saw no adjustments for overscan. Try connecting with VGA and see if that solves the problem. It may be that the VGA PC input is the only one that has does 1:1 pixel mapping.

Ok, I'll have to dig around for a cable or an adapter, I havn't used VGA in years. Wouldn't VGA hurt the image quality?
Dang, thought I did my home work before purchasing this set. Guess I missed the whole 1:1 pixel mapping thing. |

My son in law uses a 22" Vizio 1080p TV with a VGA cable, and his 1920x1080 display is perfect with a 8800GT.
