Angry Fire Problem with "The Flip Mino HD" software

Hi
I am new to this form as it was recommended to me that if anyone can help me it will be you guys.....
I am on my 3rd Flip Mino HD camera and can not use the edit functions in the software.....I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 15 times so far and continue to get errors as soon as I click on any edit function......the "level 3" tech dept says that they can not find a solution to my problem....they tried for 24 hrs!!!
I am finding that I am not the only person with such problems that they can not help with.....no wonder they guarantee the camera for only 90 days...they also send a used replacement if you have to ship yours in for repairs (stated in their guarantee)...the one I got back had nicks and scratches all over it.....
Anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem??
Thanks

Before anyone can help you're going to have to tell us what the errors are, please copy/paste them all, and you're going to have to post your specs.

Of course.....sorry

My System is:
Windows XP
Service pack 3
Pentium 4 CPU 2.8 GHz 279 GHz 2Gig Ram

Error code: 0, 13

An unexpected error occurred. If this occurs again, please contact technical support.

Failed on call to GetDuration, HR = -2147467259

Thread info:

Error code: 0, 15

An unexpected error occurred. If this occurs again, please contact technical support.

Failed on call to SetPositions in setStart, HR = -2147024809

Thread info:

Error code 5,12

I am unable to copy and paste this error code as this error code freezes the Flip program....I also have gotten other error codes as well......6,8....etc.....

I hope that this info is of some help to you....and I hope that you are able to assist me with this as the "tech" department is not able to.

It seems like the first camera had a corrupt file that embedded itself on my hard drive and reappears as I reinstall the flip program....is that possible?? I am on my 3rd camera and each has the exact same problems with the software.....

Thanks

Sorry if you've done any of this before but I have to ask.

Have you and Flip Mino gone over the software on your computer, Video drivers and .NET that you may need to run the program.
Have you run the DX Diagnostic and were all DirectX display features enabled ?

Is there any other 3rd party video editing software on that computer and have you installed any codec packs ?

Hi
I truly am grateful for your help....
The "tech" people at Flip have only had me uninstall and reinstall the Flip program.....several times.....and replace the camera 3 times....
I have no idea what the steps that you mentioned mean......I am quite computer "illiterate"
Are you able to give me "step by step" instructions as what I could do?
Thank you so much for your patience and help.......

Oh......I do have DivX Player with codec

OK....I found out what"run the DX Diagnostic" means....I googled it........
I ran it and all was OK except that the AGP Texture Accelerator was not available....
Is that good or bad...??

You need to update your video drivers and enable AGP Texture acceleration.
If you'll tell us what video card you've got, or the make and model if you're running an OEM computer (That's DELL, HP and so on. ) we can tell you where to go to get them.
It's also possible that you need updates for Flip Mino's software.

Your description of their tech support is alarming someone should have thought to ask you about DX and possible software conflicts before this.

That codec pack is a possible problem but lets do one thing at a time.
You need to get your video updated and fully functioning.
Start with the latest drivers and enable AGP Texture Acceleration.

OK here's the page with the drivers for your model : http://support.dell.com/support/down...IM_PNT_P4_3100

Go down to the video drop down and, with your manual in hand, download the drivers for the video hardware in your computer ( If you don't have a Hauppage tv card there's no point in downloading a Hauppage driver. ).

Here's the link to how to manage all the driver updates on your Dell : http://support.dell.com/support/topi...A68F5B282110#2

Not good, you're hardware limited.
I was hoping an update might "improve" the integrated graphics but apparently not.
You have some, but not all, of the capabilities to run the Flip Mino.
What you need is better video and that machine won't let you add a video card to it.

Save the Flip Mino for your next computer.

Sorry for the delay.
A Flip Mino should be working .
I've been trying to post your error messages and my further questions but "MyCe" is having site problems just now so I'll try again later.

I've got a consensus for you and it's not good.
Somewhere you have a software glitch and if you can't spot it you have to rebuild the XP install.

The problem usually come from security software or codec packs that don't install/uninstall properly.

If you've checked and all your video settings are default and all drivers are up to date then the above is the most likely source of the problem.

No bother, that's what we're here for.

Read through this : http://www.fixya.com/support/t120736...on_disabled_or

Re-reading your post your settings should be at default but look at them any way once you open Properties (click on the tab).
This means it's got the proper resolution for your monitor, that color is 32 bit and so on.

Then follow the rest of the instructions for troubleshooting and enabling hardware acceleration and let us know what happens.

Default Video settings:
1. Right click any where on the desktop, but not on an icon.
2. In the drop down menu select 'properties'. A window will open.
3. Click on the settings tab.
4. Within this tab there will be a box labeled 'Advanced' Click on it.**
5. One or more of these tabs will have a box labeled 'defaults'.
6. For each tab that has this box. Click on the 'defaults' box, Then click apply. Do this for every tab that has a 'defaults' box. When done click 'ok'.

**If you don't have an advanced tab, you should have a box labeled 'defaults'. click on it, then click 'ok'.

This means to reload the operating system. Windows XP. Basically, start from scratch.

The OS(operating system) is not cooperating with the software program that runs your camcorder. This is usually caused by another program that wants to use the operating system in some other way. You may have two or more programs that don't want to play nice together. Sometimes the OS gets confused or might not know how to manipulate itself in order for it to run all the programs you have installed. This happens quiite often when programs don't always fully uninstall or when multiple programs are uninstalled and reinstalled. The excess of information gets to be too much to sort out.

The problem now is tryiing to determine what program/s is/are not getting along and if all of the fighting programs are all there. If you can figure this out, you may be able to correct the problem. What happens here is that even some of the most advanced techies say, "You gotta' be kidding me. what a pain in the ___!" And then solve the problem with a brand new OS. Better known as a 'fresh install'.

The technical phrase is: "Your OS is Hosed."

Your Dell should have a resore partiton on the hard drive. When it boots, at some point in the proccess of booting, you will see a screen that will give you instructions to press ? for setup, or press ? for restore/system restore or something of the sort. This will set the pc back to the way it was originally. Granted the drawback is that you will lose all your settings and files if you haven't backed them up.

To access the recovery partition on a Dell built after 7/2004, press Ctrl+F11 immediately after turning on the power.

Hi all and thank you for all of the help...
Is this going to help with the Flip errors that I keep getting when trying to use the "movie" function?
