someone please explain LCD and refresh rates with gaming...

I'm thinking of getting this monitor for gaming http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236058

Is there anything I need to do in the control panel such as turn off v-sync or set the refresh rate at a certain number? Do LCD screens have that flicker like CRT's? right now my CRT is set at 85hz. 60hz gives me eye strain. Should I set the hz to 85 for an LCD screen or is it totally different?

LCDs have a native sync rate of 60hz. and you do not get flicker. Most LCDs don't have many options to change the sync rate. If looking for an LCD for gaming, look for one that has a refresh rate at 2ms.

Nope, you shouldn't need to touch anything. LCDs are pretty much plug & play. The only things you might want to adjust are the brightless and contrast with the montior's menu buttons.

DVI is preferable to VGA and you should run native resolution (1600x900). Use 60 Hz.

V-Sync is still useful with an LCD monitor. The purpose of V-Sync is to prevent the frame rate from exceeding the refresh rate. This can cause "tearing" which can be very distracting during game play. I generally leave V-Sync off in the control panel and turn it on in games that need it.
