Monitor Issue

After building a couple of computers that were used for gaming mostly over the past several years, I decided I needed a new one. This was I think about 3 or 4 years ago. I came across a very informative article on PCMech regarding the advantages of purchasing a Dell from the outlet center if you only want a computer for internet/word processing use. I did this and have been very happy with the Dimension E521 that I purchased. It has served me quite well for light computing.

About four months ago an issue arose. The monitor kept shutting down at random similar to going into sleep mode. After having done this several times, I turned the monitor off and when I turned it back on, it would come on just fine, no lines, no flicker, a great picture, then after a few seconds, go back off. I then attached a different monitor and the same thing happened. So I am confident it is not a monitor problem. Well I just put the whole rig in the closet and forgot about it until today.

My pride has got the better of me and I was wondering if with the limited skills I have if there were any way to fix this. The frustrating thing is trying to get into the machine and checking to see if any power settings have been changed inadvertently while the monitor keeps shutting off after only a few seconds. (painstakingly I did this and put all automatic shut off controls are at NEVER) yet the problem persists.

The monitors are just run of the mill flat-panel monitors and both have served well until this point. I would be happy to respond with any additional information that you need or specs.

Thank-you in advance

I'd guess that possibly the psu is failing.
