I finally decide to spend a buck and buy an LCD monitor. I unplug the Dell CRT and plug in the Princeton and right away, get the box saying, 'check connection cable' and then it shuts down to sleep mode (liight goes from green to amber). I check every connection 6 times and still the same message. So, I plug the old CRT back in and it will not light up at all until I pull the connection cable and then it tells me the cable has been disconnected. The power cord is plugged into a power strip. I'm lost...
What do I need to do? |

Check the Settings and make sure the refresh rate is turned down to 60Hz. Chances are you had it higher for your CRT and some LCD units will not tolerate a high refresh rate. Hook the CRT back up to make the change to 60 and then reconnect the LCD.

If it's XP, try starting it in VGA mode. Then set the resolution and refresh rate to a compatible setting.
It's not wise to hotswap monitors without presetting the resolution and refresh rate to compatible settings - you can cause damage if you don't. |

Anyone notice that neither monitor now displays an image?
"It's not wise to hotswap monitors without presetting the resolution and refresh rate to compatible settings..." I bet there are a lot of people who didn't know that!! (Including me.)
However, did anyone notice that neither monitor now displays an image. Both power up but neither light up. Last edited by newomij; 09-15-2009 at 08:45 PM. |

Embarrasing Simplicity
That was it. I reseated the card and 'voila', my CRT came back to life. The Princeton LCD, on the other hand, was found to be dead from the getgo.
Thanks for the help one more time!!! |
