Don't need onboard audio!
I am building a high-end PC to use as an audio recording workstation. I have built several computers using advice from this website. My question is: (1) does anyone make a motherboard without onboard audio? I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality FPS sound card. And (2) if I can't buy a motherboard without onboard audio, how can I permanently disable the audio on the motherboard?

You can disable the sound in the BIOS. Sometimes installing a sound card automatically disables it.

I've never seen it automatically disable, but every board I've seen with onboard audio has a setting in the bios to disable it.
There are some server motherboards made without onboard audio, but most of those have onboard video and may not have full support for a non-server operating system. They also may require (slower) ECC ram and can be costly. |

Sorry, a little off topic here, but why the X-Fi for a recording workstation? There are much better options out there for around the same kind of money. The EMU 1212M and ESI Juli@ come to mind. Both run ~$150 or so.
