video card comparison screenshot
Hello all-
I am tinkering again with the p4pe-x 3 g P4 that glc has been so thoroughly familiar with (really, really familiar) in the mboard oc forum. Question here is straight up- it's my son's box used mostly for WOW- I have dealt with mb issues, cpu ram etc- but thought when i bought a gforce 6200 512 I "done good" it's getting hard to find AGP cards that arent 100 bucks as this is a piecemeal goodwill kindness of strangers build- Here goes- I was given an a Radeon 9600 pro 256m. I figure can't be as good etc, but I know there are many issues besides the numbers on the box in this stuff- but I ran GPU-z just to compare and contrast and would greatly appreciate thoughts on what the heck I am looking at- Please see attachment- (oh it's in open office and won't upload.. now it's pdf.. ) Thanks again.. Also is Riva Tuner an option to level the playing field so to speak- to weak a little or is it worth it stability wise? I guess I have read a lot of negative things on the 6200 especially for gaming and there have been some freezing issues.. glc I am saving for the one on newegg to end this bs, but this was a freebee, so I am curious) and it gets boring when all of the boxes are working right- gotta mess with them. Thanks, as always for any and all help!

Which one gives you the better in-game experience? That's what counts - not the specs.
The 6200 is crippled by the 64 bit memory bus, the 9600 is crippled by DDR instead of DDR2. To me, that should be a wash. |

Thanks glc,
Yeah, I know I have seen you reply to similar questions that is's not apples to apples kind of deal- it all matters how well it runs in game and in the box. Looks and stability etc. I ran benchmarks on the two cards and the 6200 came up at about 28 fps, while the radeon score 40. I know that's not the decider here, I just got the freebie and thought I would try it. Plus, I installed riva on the 6200 the other night and then the next day received angry calls from the WOW kid that the computer was freezing and what did I do to it??? ![]() So, I guess, I will get it stable and then dig out the money from the swear jar and buy a new board with a pcie and 775 for my 2.26 core2 and build something else.. i love to tinker, but I need to have one for me to tinker with and one that is left alone.. Thanks again |

That proves to me that ATI had a winner way back when with the 9600 Pro and the 6200 is a turd.........

My sentiments exactly- that's why I wanted to let you see the screen shots.
It was telling me that a card with "less" on the box numbers (256vs512) and two years older was a better performing card. And after you told me the 6200 was not a "great" card- I researched it and could not find anything that disagreed- even the oc'ers said it was mediocre at best- it looked like it was outdatd before it was on the street. Thanks- we'll see what the WOW son says... he doesn't know I changed the card.
