Installed PCI Wireless Card, Not Recognizing Graphics Card
I recently added a PCI wireless card to my Dell Dimension 8400. It works great, only problem is now my computer doesn't recognize my graphics card (standard 256MB ATI Radeon X800 XT, I believe).
The other variable I'm dealing with is that I haven't tried to use the video card since reformatting and adding RAM, though I feel like that's a less likely cause than adding the wireless card. Wireless Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...115&Tpk=wmp54g Any ideas? Thanks. |

I've since made sure the graphics card didn't come loose when I put in the wireless card. Not the case, to be sure I took out the graphics card and put it back in, making sure it was snug.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I only have the one video card, when I added RAM is was just RAM for the whole system. I'm trying to run Age of Empires 3 and it won't run, saying that I have a 0 MB graphics card.

Did you install ALL the drivers after your reformat - including the Intel chipset drivers and video card drivers?

Use Dell's website to get your drivers. http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen
Either use your service tag or look up by model number. If you're not sure what you're missing (if you are missing any drivers) go to Device Manager (Right click My Computer, select "Manage", select "Device Manager") and look for a yellow exclamation mark next to something. Device manager won't tell you what you need exactly but it gives you an idea so you can narrow it down. |

All the drivers you need will be on the Dell Resource CD that came with the computer - except for components that have been added since shipment (video card upgrade, etc.). The drivers online may be more up to date. However, the drivers, both on the CD and online, will be for every possible configuration and factory option. There is a way to figure out exactly what you need - the support site has a facility to enter your service tag number and get a listing of everything the computer originally shipped with.
The most common one that's overlooked by most people are the chipset drivers - which are usually found under "utilities". If you don't install them FIRST, driver installations for other devices often don't work right. |
