Is there an alternative to old CRT television for 480i?
Here's my problem. I have a nintendo wii and whatever you do, even if you get the component cable to make the signal 480p, the picture doesn't look as good on a LCD TVs as good as it would otherwise look on an old CRT tv. I have a toshiba 720p tv, and a Samsung 1080p tv, so wii would look blurry on them.
Do you know of any solutions or unique LCD tvs whose native resolution is 480p/i? ps: I know that wii games are graphically weak, still like them sometimes

You can change the Wii resolution...it's buried in somewhere in the settings menus.
Note that older3rd-party Wii games may not run properly at higher resolutions.

Plasma sets generally do better with lower resolution signals. 480p is the best the Wii can do. I have set the Wii up on many different TVs. The smaller the screen the sharper it will look. I setup a Wii on a 54" Panasonic plasma the other day and it looked excellent.
One thing you can do is play with the picture settings on your TV. If your TV is on "Dynamic" or "Vivid" mode that can really wreak havoc with the picture quality and add all sorts of artifacts. Turn off all of the "enhancements" like edge enhancement and make sure the sharpness control isn't cranked up too high. Those controls often do more harm than good.

Ok, so I followed the recommendation went to advanced settings of my tv and turned off all advanced sounding options like Dynamic range, auto contrast etc.
The will with component cables looks better immediately. The pixels dont look washed out. What also helped adding one unit of gamma. |
