Time to upgrade my video card

I'm thinking of upgrading my video card (in my sig) and was wondering what you guys would recommend in the ~$100 range. I'm not into hugely graphically-intensive games, but play WoW, Aion etc. I would also need HD output, in case we ever put up an HDTV in the room for movies etc. How ould an ATI 4850 512MB compare for example?
Cheers,
Paddy

The 4850 isn't that much better than a 8800GT. Not worth the cost to upgrade in my opinion. Benchmarks are only about 5 to 10% better. Maybe it's best to wait one more generation - keep an eye on the Radeon 5000's.

OK, thanks glc. I'll keep an eye out. There's no big rush.

From the benchmarks I've seen and real life testing I've done, I would say the HD4850 is around 20%-30% faster than the 8800GT with a larger difference as the quality and resolution is increased. That being said, it might not be that good of an upgrade. I would look at the HD4870 (1GB preferably) once they come down in price some more (right now a 512MB HD4870 is around $125 US, and an additional ~$20 for the 1GB version), this card will provide around 50% more performance than the 8800GT and the 1GB version will work better at high resolutions and with AA than the 512MB version. AMD should be releasing some new cards soon that will be branded as the HD5700 series and should have similar performance to the HD4870 but in a smaller form factor and lower power consumption (as well as possibly lower price).

Not exactly in the $100 range though.

and the 4870 cards are hot and loud....I'd wait too...I mean if all you are playing is WoW then the current card is really overkill...no need for a newer bigger card...
