Video Problems
I'm having problems with my streaming videos and my gaming video as well. When i watch videos i downloaded its fine. I thought it was my ram because Mozilla kept crashing and stalling. But i did a memtest and it said its fine. Im not sure whats wrong now.
When i watch online video now this happens, and i get some screeching noise from my speakers as well. http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/v...eoproblems.jpg |

Update your video driver - if that doesn't fix it, post back with full computer specs, including brand and model of the power supply.

ATI recommends a 450 watt power supply.
Is that a True Power, True Power 2.0, or True Power Trio? |

I think its just true power, but i could be wrong. Ive done gaming on that power supply and vid card since feb with no problem.
I have the blue screen of death now. I have a weird hunch it still may be my ram, i think i may need to get a diagnostic test done. |

If it's just a True Power, that's not good, it's an old ATX 1.x unit and doesn't have enough amps on the +12v rail. Open up the case and read the label on the PSU, please post what it says on +12v - and how many +12v it has. It could be 1, 2, or 3.
Boot it up again with memtest86+ and let it run overnight. |

OK, i went into safe mode and deleted all my TEMP files, and that made a bit of a diffrence. I can now get back into windows normally but again, if i try to watch something streaming or play a game it will crash.
My power supply is a true power TRIO 430W. Im not even sure if this is software or hardware now. My video driver is up to date too. |

The Trio is a good unit and fully capable of powering your rig in spite of the 450w recommendation. I just wanted to make sure you weren't running at the edge.

I was watching about 3 hours of movies from my comp to TV last night. I use a dvi-hdmi cable for that. Went smooth for about 3 hours then started to have problems. I still think its my ram but i ran the mem test and said nothing is wrong.
You previously stated to run the memtest overnight. My memtest only took about 20 minutes. Am I running the wrong memtest? |

Hmm - are you using version 4.00 of Memtest86+ ? I haven't used that version yet, but all previous versions run till you stop it. Maybe you should download version 2.11.
www.memtest.org EDIT: Check out the last post in this thread: VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator That link to the AMD/ATI forums may be exactly what you need. Last edited by glc; 10-14-2009 at 11:44 AM. |

I tried 2.11 and it still does the 20 minute memtest like version 4.00. Im burning the ISO to a cd and then booting from a CD. Im downloading the zipfile out of the selection. Is there another one i need to download? |

No - that *should* just keep running until you stop it. Are you sure it's not locking up?

With the problems ive been showing and describing, its most likely the ram correct? Should i just go replace the ram and save the trouble of getting this memtest to work?

What we need to do is exercise the ram for several hours - try downloading version 1.70. I know for a fact that it just runs and runs.
No, don't replace the ram just yet. |

I looked at the screen shots from the memtest website and my test doesnt look like that. http://www.memtest.org/pics/amd64-big.gif Mine is very simple looking and doesnt give me any details. I know thats version 1.00 and im using version 1.70 at the moment but doesnt look like anything close to that. |

are you booting to the memtest cd and running it in DOS or running the version in windows...?
you want to run it under DOS mode... I would recommend you run test #5 looped

I am booting the cd while its in DOS mode. Well, I bought a stick of 2gig ram and I took out all the old sticks and replaced it with the new one and I'm still getting the problems. So its not my ram sticks any more. Its probably something else or the ram slots are bad. Im taking it to a computer shop for a diagnostic test. :/

Might be a time for a hard drive wipe and reinstall.

I'm not saying the hard drive is bad, but it sure could be corrupted. You can run chkdsk /f on it from a command prompt to fix file system errors, and you can run manufacturer's diagnostics on the drive to see if it's healthy.
