Video Card Upgrade(ATI)
I Currently have a ATI 4870 which I have loved since I first got it. But, I am looking to upgrade this Christmas from that to possibly this.
http://www.amd.com/us/products/deskt...-overview.aspx I also have a 21inch Monitor and am looking to get a second(dual) as well. First question is, would it be worth upgrading to that video card from the 4870, and if so I just want to make sure it is compatible with my current mobo which is a Asus P5k Pro. Also, any reccommendations for the second montior would be appreciated! Thanks |

The card is compatible with your motherboard, and the power consumption is similar to the hd4870, but I don't think it's worth upgrading to unless you have a 23" monitor or higher and/or your games are lagging; the cost of the HD5870 is also quite high right now, if you don't need it now, might want to wait a bit longer as the prices are sure to come down.

I have a 24" LCD hooked up to my main rig (in sig; has a 512MB HD4870) and I can handle pretty much any game with good frame rates and the settings maxed out (except for AA). If you want to have high AA/AF, and everything else maxed out on the 23 inch, then the HD5870 will work great, otherwise, you can probably wait a bit longer.
