9800 gtx+ install no signal?
Ok I just upgraded my inspiron 531's ram from 2 to 4 gigs, installed a new PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170017 which is fairly cheap but from the comments at newegg should run the 9800 gtx+ just fine.
Here is the card: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=A2505446 Now with everything installed I get no video signal. If I put my 8600gt back in the power supply and ram are fine, the signal is fine and it boots up. Im curious why im not getting video signal with the new video card. The DVI is the same as I used with my 8600gt and the fan on the card is spinning so its definately getting power ... Any ideas? Am I forgetting something? Thanks |

Hate to say it, but that power supply is junk. I wouldn't trust it.
Do you have all required power connectors connected to the video card? |

Ya I was aware its not a great power supply but I heard enough good things that I figured it would do the job for awhile. And yes the card requires 1 six pin connector and the PS has two, I have tried both with the same result.

A 9800GTX requires 24A on the 12v rail, and two 6 pin pcie connectors. and that psu total output in 12v rail is 25A. so no way that Extra 1A can be enough to balance the system and the video card, so that is why there is no video. Last edited by Slaander; 10-30-2009 at 07:51 AM. |

The 9800 gtx+ only requires one 6 pin connector, there is only one plug on it. I am running my system extremely light when it comes to power as well so when I saw the other 25+ guys running their gtx+ with this PS I thought it would be fine. Yes it runs 25 on the rail and the card requires 24. Im not sure how to explain the other comments on the newegg site running it just fine unless I got a lemon that isnt pushing the correct output. |

I think just to be safe I may order a new PS anyways, any reccomendations? This PS must be at least 2x louder than my last one and even though its in a room solely for the computer I know it will drive me insane

Ya I have the newer version, it has one 6pin and is supposed to be a bit more power efficient. Im just trying to decide which power supply would be a good fit. I have my OEM power supply back in the comp and I sent the new one back. I cant even hear the fan on this one I love it, too bad it cant run the card though.
