VHS to PC/DVD ?
hey guys,
i have a RCA audio (red and white cables) to Audio (the normal audio jack that i think should be plugged to line-in on my sound card) and a RCA (yellow cable) to S-Video cable - is there a way i can record off a VHS player straight to my pc ? i actually just plugged the RCA to S-video cable (RCA side on the VHS obviously, S-Video goes to my eVGA 9800+ GTX) - i ran Sony Vegas import video but it doesn't show anything up.. am i doing something wrong or is it the software that's not recognizing? do i need anything else ? i want to capture video from the old tapes to my pc in order to make them DVD's or just save them on my pc - keep in mind the RCA to S-Video is plugged to the VHS player's output video. edit: when i thought about it, is the S-video on the gfx card only output from the gfx card to a TV, for example ? if so, i have to buy one of those packages that have RCA to USB adapters ? Thanks in advance. Last edited by KoMoDo; 10-30-2009 at 08:00 AM. |

I think will be easier to just get a tv tuner card or tv to usb capture stick, and capture the video in mpeg format and then convert them to dvd video format.

The S-video on the card is output only. You need some sort of capture device.

thats what i thought - ive been told USB will overheat and its best to get a tv card after all ?
also, if i get the USB one, how do i get the output from the VHS player onto my pc ? does it dump it as XVID automatically, or is it huge, raw files that i then have to convert ? long process... |

Well, no matter what you get - USB or PCI - you are going to have to have some kind of capturing software. I don't think Windows Movie Maker is going to cut it. Virtualdub should be able to do the job but you will need something additional to be able to edit them and create DVD's.
