Multiple monitor issues
I just did a major upgrade to my main PC. It's basically a new PC in the same case. Anyway, I have never had an ATI card and I don't what is causing this issue or if it is just normal behavior (I hope not!).
At the same time I put this machine together I also finally got around to running a permanent HDMI run over CAT5 under the house to my main TV so I can easily play games and watch internet content from my PC. It works great when I use it. The problem is when I DON'T want to use it. Every time the TV is turned on or off by someone in the house it causes the PC monitor to go black for about 10 seconds. Sometimes it does not come back on at all! I have to Press Start + P repeatedly before I finally get my screen back.
The TV is connected to the HDMI output on my card. When I have the view set to extend, my primary monitor is my Asus LCD. However, the TV is shown as display #1. If I let the PC go to sleep while the TV is on and the view is set to extend the desktop I then get nothing on the PC monitor when I wake it up other than the mouse cursor and the only way I can get it working again is to do a hard reboot. Even when the TV is off it is shown in the catalyst control center and both the TV and monitor are #1.
I have been using multiple monitors on my laptop (S-Video out to bedroom TV) for a long time with it's ATI graphics and Windows 7 and have never had any issues like this. If I can't get it fixed then I'll have to resort to climbing back and unplugging the HDMI whenever I'm not using it. The whole point of the permanent run was to avoid that!
