I want my 4 speakers back! :)
OK,
I "had" to switch my SB card-off because I needed the slot. I am now using that wonderful item called "On Board" audio. I mean, I am glad I have it or I'd be really screwed. But, I lost my surround sound. I am using both XP and W7 on this box. I loaded the sound drivers from the Intel 915 GAGL MB CD. And for a very short time I had 4 speakers on W7, but it rolled it back or something because after I started up a couple times i got a driver failed error. Thats W7. On XP I have not had any luck in getting the drivers to load or work. I really miss my 4 speakers ![]() I know thats not much info. Here is as much as I can think of. The MB is Intell 915GAGL OS is XP pro (up to date) 4 point surround by Cambridge speaker There is different sets of driver on the CD 1--Intel_R__High_Definition_Audio_Bus_Driver 2- Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver And then there is all the Relteck stuff: Rtkazaud.sys Version: 5.10.0.5027 SoundMan.exe Version: 1.0.0.4 ALSndMgr.cpl Version: 1.0.0.2 Rtlcpl.exe Version: 1.0.1.29 1.Sync the status which Enable/Disable wizard with alcwzrd 2.Make the tab of "Audio Wizard" independent from menu tabs. 3.Stop the play sound when menu tab is change. Alcwzrd.exe Version: 1.1.0.12 1.Fixed broken wizard image. 2.Sync the status which Enable/Disable wizard with rtlcpl. Operate on : Microsoft High Definition Audio Driver Package - KB835221 Package file version (kb835221.exe) : 6.1.1.0 Hdaudiobus.sys version : 5.10.00.5010 Hope someone out there has some help to offer. Thanks B |

I'm trying to find a way for you to KEEP your sound card - I'm almost convinced that you are overlooking some empty slots.

I went back through the post to see where I went wrong. 915GAG "L", could be the problem.
Why I have an L on it I am not sure as I usually just look at the manual I have in a folder for such things as MB's and Video cards etc... I just uploaded my MB so you can see it: http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/9453/915gag.jpg Keep in mind that my video card eats up 2 slots. Leaving me one for sound or NIC.... I had to put NIC in because onboard died. Unless I am missing something right before my eyes (wouldn't be the first time) there are no more slots. I really appreciate your persistence and hope my misplaced "L" doesn't discourage you in the future. Thank again |

I was just looking and the 915GEV has more slots. Two to be precise. There is no animal as the 915GAG "L".
At least not in my manual there isn't. So I have no idea where I got it from. Believe me, I'd like to have my sound blaster back. I am listening to an old Van Morrison song (Village Idiot) as I write this and I can hear the difference. There is a 2 DVD set "Hymns to the Silence" by Van that may be his best. If you like Van that is. |

The "L" signifies onboard LAN. You have 4 slots (I think I have told you this several times) - if the video card takes up two of them, you should have room for both a LAN card and a sound card.
The little slot (marked "V" in your pic) is a PCI-Ex1 slot........... Put your sound card back in and get one of these, like I suggested a few weeks ago: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc= Either that or buy one of these sound cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc= Last edited by glc; 11-12-2009 at 09:10 PM. |

hey thanks--i got it understood now. I just dont recall the PCI-Ex1 slot from before. I kept thinking about the USB, and you didn't sound so keen on it, so I stayed away.
But I fully understand what you are saying and will get the PCIEx network adapter. I didn't know that the small blk slot was a PCIE, obviously I need to read more. It will be nice to have my SB back. Thanks I think I am going to go for the Intel EXPI9402PF for $699.99 instead of the Intel EXPI9404PFBLK for $1,678.99 . My first car cost $2600. A Ply roadrunner. 383. So I will probably settle for the $29.99. And keep my ford truck. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him....... What can I say, I'm thick headed sometimes. |
