Ideal Setup to View PC

To keep eyestrain to a minimum.

What are your views on the ideal PC viewing setup/environment?

I now use a Samsung 2333SW

1024 x 768

60 hertz

Where should the room light be in relation to the monitor and the user?

It seems that I've had noticeably more eyestrain since I switched monitors.

Get a monitor with the smallest dot pitch and the greatest resolution you can afford. Even with the same resolution, some monitors have sharper images than others. Make sure it is back far enough where you cannot see individual dots on the screen. Make sure it is running at no less than 60 Hz. Have a light on in the room. Don't let the monitor itself be the only source of light. Newer graphics cards in general have sharper images. Get up periodically and focus your eyes in the distance.

The first thing you need to do is use a widescreen resolution, you have a widescreen monitor with a 16:9 ratio. 1024x768 is a standard 4:3 ratio. Native resolution on that monitor is 1920x1080, which will ALWAYS be the clearest, but everything is going to be TINY. Using any lesser resolution will result in a very distinct loss of clarity. 60 Hz is the correct refresh rate for a LCD.

No offense, but my suggestion for least eyestrain is run it at native resolution with Clear Type enabled, and wear prescription eyeglasses optimized for your viewing distance.

David's advice is more for CRT's.
