Burning audio cd W/ Media player

Used media Player to burn about a doz. tracks to a cd, to take to the garage for tunes
while working. I throw the cd into the player in the shop & I get zlich. no audio & the player shows 0 tracks, bring it back to the P/C and it plays fine.
It's probably a dumb question, but what am I missing

OK, this is a list of the usual trouble points but only you know the specs for the player.
Is that a CD-R, not a CD-RW (Which many players still can't handle.) you recorded on?
Did you copy the music as an audio file and not as a WMA/mp3 file (Many older player are limited to audio copies.).
An older player may have a problem with variable bit rates or anything other than 128 kbps.

The above is where things are most likely to go wrong but by no means the only ones.

The media is Memorex CD-RW 700mb.
And the player in the shop is fairly old NEC CD-500

I burnt a second cd using the software that came with my COWON MP3 Player
same issues, nothing on the NEC, works fine in the P/C.

will experiment some more, pick up a handfull of plain vanilla CD-R coasters.
have a old copy of Nero here some where, I now have a mission of sorts.

You should have no problem with CD-R and Nero, just burn it as an audio CD. If you can't find your Nero, you can use one of the freebies such as Deepburner or CDBurnerXP. I would recommend you stay away from Memorex though.

The NEC is probably choking on the CD-RW.

CDBurnerXP was my stand by for anything that wasn't iTunes.

Brand of cd is sometimes the issue. Some players like certain brands of media.(Memorex, Tdk, etc.)

Are you finalizing the disk. Many cd players will not play the cd if it is not finalized first.
