Video Card Vs Integrated

I currently have a HP p6230y with integrated graphics. I am a fan of MSFS and would like to play the game on the higher settings. When I installed MSFS the default settings left much to be desired. I have changed the settings and it has helped but at the same time slowed play. The PSU is 300W and there is a PCI E slot available. Is there something I can do to increase the graphics rendered in the current set up? Thanks for your time and if there is additional information regarding my current desktop, I will follow.

HP Pavilion p6230y, AMD Phenom II X4 810 (2.6 GHz), 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM, 750 GB Standard, ATI Radeon HD 4200, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition, PSU 300

I don't know what you're willing to spend, but I would recommend this:

and whatever card you get, you'll definitely need a better PSU:

Thanks for the suggestions. The PSU you mention is 600W. The specs on the card indicates a minimum of 400w. Do I need that extra Ws? Thanks!

It's always a good idea to have some extra head room above the minimum, just to be safe.

You COULD probably be OK with 500w, but I definitely wouldn't go below that. Plus the extra wattage gives you room to upgrade your vid card more in the future if you wish.

The 9800 is an older, hot-running, and power-hungry design. Here's a very nice card for half the price:

It doesn't need that strong a power supply - this one will handle it fine:

The ASUS looks to be the way to go at this point. I will order it up along with the new power supply. Any suggestions or thoughts on introducing a video card into a system that has integrated graphics? I have read that one needs to disable the on-board graphics. I have not had a lot of luck in getting answers from HP on the question.
Thanks again to all for the help...it is refreshing to have someone to turn to for answers.

Insert the card, connect the monitor cable to it, and boot it up. If you have video (which you should), let it go into Windows and install the card drivers. You can then go into the bios settings and disable the onboard graphics, then back in Windows, uninstall the onboard drivers. PCI-Express generally allows both the onboard and a card be active simultaneously.

Take your girlfriend out to dinner instead...that's better spent money.
