thinking of upgrading my video card

currently i have a SAPPHIRE 100106SR-RD Radeon X850XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card with Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 3.0GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Single-Core EM64T Processor, 3 gigs of ram, Rosewill RP500 500W ATX12V v1.3/ EPS12V Power Supply.

i recently installed modern warfare 2 on my machine and got an error saying Video card or driver doesn't support vertex shader 3.0 or better.

so currently i am thinking about upgrading my video card but i really don't have any idea what newer card would work with my current system, play the recent games and not break my bank.

any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

glc thanks for replying to my post. just curious what requirements i should be looking for when looking for a compatible video card. i guess i am just asking how do you know this one will work?
and will this be fine for the next couple years.

The HD4670 will work because it supports up to DX10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, as well as all the previous versions of DX and SM. Modern Warfare 2 requires DX9.0 and Shader Model 3.0 or higher. The newest cards have DX11.0 and SM5.0, however that won't become mainstream for at least 2 or more years. Games are still using DX9.0 and SM3.0 and some games are coming out with DX10.0 and SM4.0, however even DX10.0 is still not mainstream yet.
