What does the rest of the system look like? (PSU Brand & Model, CPU, motherboard, etc.) Do you spend more time doing 3d modeling or gaming? If you do lots of 3d modeling, you'll want a workstation card which is faster for 3d modeling, but slower at gaming, otherwise a normal desktop video card will give you better gaming performance and ok 3d modeling performance.

With ATI you get "more bang for your buck" so when someone has a budget such as yours, ATI will almost always be recommended.

Oh...last time I checked, the look of a video card did not determine it's performance.

There's a few Nvidias on there - but most are ATI. Last I looked, Tom's Hardware was pretty objective. Also, it's a FACT that ATI cards generally consume less power and put out less heat. It's also generally regarded that ATI's have a more accurate 2D display - color and clarity. Forest, would it interest you that I just happen to have a 8600GTS in THIS computer? Does that make me a fanboy for recommending ATI cards to people? I recommend the best product for the money to do the intended job, and I draw on over 15 years experience in the computer business to do so. Have you even been alive that long? Now, back to the point of this thread - I'm recommending a brand new card with DX11 capability over a 2 generation old inefficient card. What's wrong with that? That's not what I said - you can certainly buy whatever card you want. All I'm asking is recommendations to others be backed up with some facts rather than just pushing what you happen to have or like. If someone GAVE me a 9800GT, I'd probably use it - it's better than my 8600GTS - but I wouldn't BUY one unless the price was ridiculously low - like 50 bucks.

From what benchmarks I've seen and the tech reports I read, it looks like Nvidia is moving away from Gaming and going into Workstation and High Performance Computing. This is probably because Nvidia makes more complex chipsets than ATI and can therefore be used for more than Gaming, but the cost is higher and it is more difficult for them to come out with newer chipsets as well as compete with ATI which has simplified their chipsets so that they work well for Gaming and don't cost as much as Nvidia chipsets to make. At the rate it's going, it looks like the competition between Nvidia and ATI will go down as they start to move into different markets; at one point it may be that we pick between Nvidia and ATI depending on which type of application we have for their cards.

That will be a switch - Nvidia was always game-oriented while ATI was oriented towards a quality display.

You see glc we are freaks here, maybe not all but people who stay. You like to follow the rules and so on and so forth. But I like to break them. I take nothing serious. Remember the time I posted the paragrahp about the girl thing it was true but I was looking for attention. Now you are saying what does this comment has to do with anything and your planning to delete it. I'm just looking for attention. And cure for my depression ill. between how old are you glc

If you want to break our rules, you are no longer welcome here. It's as simple as that. You have 3 choices right now:
1. Follow the rules 2. Hit the X in the upper right corner 3. Continue misbehaving and get banned. The choice is completely yours. Before you respond to this, I'd suggest that you read Rule 7 very carefully. Last edited by glc; 12-07-2009 at 11:15 AM. |

I choose option one 1: follow the rules.
But i will make one thing clear. I don't like hypocrites and fascits. And people like that run the world. ATTENTION ( Everything that happens here should not be taken serious all my comments are jokes. Im a fool and im looking for attention) This place is filled with nazis. thats just incase if a GESTAPO feels like giving some trouble to people. Last edited by Forest; 12-07-2009 at 03:44 PM. |

good choice on the option.... it is not that this place is run by Nazi's....it is run like a tight ship...there is no room for Tom-Foolery... there is a reason for this...threads need to stay On-Topic...General Discussion is for goofing off if you will...these forums are for help and support on both ends and are run PG-13... I find this place one of the better forums on the net and one of the 1st ones I have ever joined...you will NOT find people any smarter and quick to help you anywhere else than here... But if you try to defeat the purpose and planning of the forum they will be quick to show you the door... if you want to be serious here is a good place for you...when you want attention there are a vast number of other forums than can entertain your attention needs....I can point you to some if you like...but please keep on track and you will have a fruitfull life here... |
