Is my LCD monitor dead?
Was using my Acer 21" monitor late last night gaming. Woke up this morning to boot up my PC. I notice that right after I had turned on my monitor, 2 seconds later it would go black on me. I hooked up another monitor to my PC and it worked fine. I tried checking my connections on the monitor and to the PC and they are all connected properly it appears.
I'm just not sure what the problem could be. The monitor is maybe 3-4 years old now. When it does turn on, the screen looks perfectly fine. It just goes black. If I turn it off and on again, it will stay on for another 2 seconds before going black on me. Do I have to buy a new monitor? |

I had a 19 inch Acer develop the same symptoms and it needed an internal circuit board replaced. Contact Acer for repair options or replace it.

I wish I did have another PC that I could hook it up to, but none of them have the same connector. I believe it's a DVI connector which my monitor has? All of the PCs here at home are old and don't have graphics cards in them. They're all using VGA connectors.
I'll try contacting Acer later today when I wake up I guess and see if there is something they can do. I know it's not under factor warranty anymore though ![]() Even if they are able to repair it, I might get this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Asus-VH242...ReviewTitleBar That way I'll have dual monitors again, but it would be nice to save this Acer monitor as it has been very good to me so far. |

You can get a DVI-VGA adaptor for about 3 dollars almost anywhere. Or do you have any friends with newer compters - or machines at work?

Every DVI monitor I've seen also has a VGA connector - all you need is a VGA cable.

I tried connecting it to my laptop and it did the exact same thing. Would stay on for 2 seconds and then go blank. I'm trying to find a number to contact Acer by phone and there seems to be nothing! Only way to contact their support team is by email it seems =\

You may find it best to just buy a new monitor - the repair cost may substantially approach replacement cost.
