Monitor or TV

Newbie here with a dumb question ,

I know many graphics cards now have AV inputs, in general how would you rate picture quality on a regular flat screen TV compared to a dedicated computer monitor?

AND why would anyone spend $XXX on a computer monitor when one can find a flat screen TV at a comparable price but nearly double the size?

I'm getting ready to start my first build so I figured I might as well update the monitor.
Thanks!

No question is dumb if you don't know the answer.

TV's are great for displaying video but they really stink as a monitor. The reason being that while a TV can display millions of colors their resolution is really poor. While a Monitor may not be able to display as many colors(still millions though) their resolution is very good. Since video isn't high resolution it looks fine on a TV especially as long as it is moving, not so good when you pause. When you use a TV as a monitor text is very hard to read if not nearly impossible. Plus a TV is not able to display at the screen resolutions most want to run.

Monitors on the other hand make awesome TV's. So if you can only have one a Monitor is a better choice.

19" flatscreen would be really fine!

I all kinds of enjoyed the game, maybe not so much the last four minutes when I thought we might have blown that 32 point lead!

Oh Yeah, at least there wasn't another court rushing that I know of anyway! Surely they wouldn't do it when they lose. I didn't expect them to be #1 Big 12 this season for even a week after the loss to Alabama.
