An alternative to SoundBlasters, Turtle Beach, or Hercules Sound Cards.
Just did a build using an Abit AU-10 Home Theater Sound card (See link below) Not only does the card sound great, it features 5.1 capability (Front Center Rear) and it comes with an Infared Remote setup that features a receiver that plugs into the mouse PS2 Port (it is a pass thru design that allows you to still connect the mouse) and a fully function remote. The remote will also allows you to control slide show type programs and DVD software.
Installation was a breeze on an XP machine and the software worked perfect. And the best part it is only $24.99. http://www.excaliberpc.com/product_i...roducts_id=707 |

Sounds like a great deal, I'll keep it in mind for my next build. Thanks for the heads up MW.

Sounds like a good cheap alternative, will have to give it a try on my next budget build. Thanks for the heads up Morris.

It looks like it has some great features for a sound card of that price! Is the sound as good as the TBSC and Hercules line of cards? Just wondering because I'm building a strictly multimedia rig for someone who wants exceptional sound as the #1 priority. Thanks!

I found the sound to be on par with the Santa Cruz that I have in one of my machines.

Gremlins?
I tried this card, and it's outstanding!
Sound is amazing. One problem/question with the software. WinRip plays, but does not give me option to 'Rip'. I've read documentation, and by all accounts I'm supposed to be able to. Any thoughts? Fish |

Well,
I updated the version to a 'trial' version from the website. It's odd, nowhere do I see the 'record' button, which is apparently their word for ripping... I'll play with it and see what happens. Otherwise, to me it's just a glorified 'WinAmp'... I wonder if the DVD software is as much 'hook' as the Wimrip was??? Fish |
