PLEASE Need Help With Major Problem - (Copy from Gen. HW Forum)
Just as a backup I am posting this problem in the Vid Card section because right now I feel my problem is related to my 9700 pro although it might not be. Recently, my computer has been "out of commission" simply because I was in between heatsinks and waiting for my SLK-900 to come in. During that time, I took out my Radeon 9700 Pro a few times to try to install the Zalman ZM-80 Heatpipe but still can't figure out how to remove that black shim over the CPU (which, as a side question, how do I do that). Yesterday, I finally got my SLK-900 in and installed it using the retention mechanism. While installing I actually lost my grip on my fan (this was while my SLK-900 was off my CPU) and it harmless knocked into my socket (just saying this to provide as much background info as possible). When my Vid Card was out I touched it a bit, never felt any ESD and I always wear a ESD Strap anyways.
Now that that's over with, time for my problem. When I got my heatsink back in and plugged in my monitor, PSU, etc etc, I turned on my comp (duh!). Everything powered up, fans spinning, HDD powering up, fan on my 9700 spinning, 9700 getting warm to the touch....... BUT NOTHING WAS BEING SENT TO THE SCREEN NOR DID I HEAR ANY POST BEEPS AT ALL. Now, this was weird. Here is what I have did prior to giving up: 1. Reseated Vid Card Twice 2. Reseated CPU 3. Reseated RAM to different slot 4. Changed Monitors, double checked all cables, etc etc 5. Checked and confirmed the speaker on my case is connected 6. Pop out CMOS battery for a bit It's really really weird. I don't have a spare vid. card, CPU, RAm, or mobo for this is my first built comp and the only other comp in the house is my parents Dell which doesnt have a AGP slot (what luck). I have a Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Ultra mobo /w P4 2.66 and 512 PC2700 Corsair XMS. PLEASE help me, I don't know if I can get Newegg to RMA my video nor I don't want since I have no clue what the source problem is. |

Tips and Tricks forum, "problems with a new build" - break it down and try it with the motherboard out of the case sitting on the table.
