Snap, crackle and pop playing MP3's

I've got a problem with the sound on my PC when listening to music (MP3's on the hard drive) I get an intermittant 'crackle' or 'popping' from the speakers that coincides with the drive access LED flashing.
This is obviously when the data is being read from the drive but my question is this - which component is causing the problem - is it my hard drive that isn't shielded properly (IBM Deskstar), is it the sound card itself (a cheap n cheerfull SB clone) or could it even be the LED creating the interferance? Any advice on eliminating this would be gratefuly received.
