monitor too dark when playing madden 2003

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem when I play madden 2003. The screen is too dark, so I go to the control panel and click "display", I go to andvanced properties and adjust the brightness under the "color" tab, but when I open up madden 2003 it resets my brightness to a level that is too dark. I can't figure out why the game keeps reseting the brightness everytime I open it. Here's my system:

Athlon 750
Rage 128 32mb
Windows XP

PS, I already have the newest ATI winxp drivers for the video card.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried to physically changed the brightness and contrast settings on the monitor?

When you are in the options menu in the game does it have any video sub menus??? Most games have either a brightness or gamma setting that you can adjust that should help you.

There's no adjustment for brightness in the game itself. I just tried adjusting the brightness via the Video card's control in control panel. I can also change it using Adobe Gamma ( I have photoshop) This makes everything very bright...including my desktop, but as soon as I open madden 2003 all the setting reset. Even when I close madden, my desktop is back to the darker setting

Have you adjusted the monitor settings on the monitor using the buttons/knobs?

same here

I have a similar problem except it's with most games and movies I use, the brightness and contrast on my monitor are all the way up, and when i set the gamma under my video card's advanced settings everything is fine with my desktop, but when i play a movie or game the gamma corection doesn't have any affect and it's way too dark. this happens on my old computer with an nvidia TNT2 and the new one i just built with a radeon 9800 (though the 9800 is even darker then the old one, and therefore harder to see) is the only way to fix this to get a new monitor (i was planning to anyway but it could be a few months) or is there some kinda driver or program that will apply the gamma corrections to videos and games like it is applied to the desktop?

I dunno about the Rage, but the Catalyst 3.6 drivers for my Radeon have separate profiles (gamma, etc.)available on the Color tab for desktop and full screen 3D.

yeah I just figured out how to correct the game with the catalyst 3.6 driver, thanks! I had already tried setting the 3D settings but the game would just reset them, but after I figured out that I should set the hot keys so I can adjust all the settings in game it was better... when i adjust the screen so it's bright enough to see everything seems "washed out" if you know what I mean, like everything is kinda lightened and foggy or something, I guess maybe I have the settings too high or something but that's the only way it's light enough to see... maybe it really is time for a new monitor... mine is 5 years old after all... guess i better start saving up!
