Hi all, I'm a little bitter this evening, I just purchased Soldier of Foutune 2 and when I started it up for the first time a message came on the screen saying something about setting my "AGP Apture to a higher setting in the bios" I was still able to run the game, but it is very choppy--the picture is stuttering kind of like the cd is skipping. Anyway, I went into the Bios, but I do not have a clue what to look for, I didn't see anything about AGP Apture. I am running Win98se on a 1.2GHz Asus system, 512MB of memory with a 128MB ATI Radeon 9500pro video card. Is this AGP Apture causing the stuttering or is there something else I can do to fix this problem? It does say on the box that the game is supported for all ati radeon series chipsets.
Please Help I really want to play this game. Thanks very much everybody

What mobo do you have?
There must definitely be an "APG Aperture size" item in one of the menus in the BIOS. I cannot remember which one, but I am sure it's in one of them.

Since you have an Asus board I think I can help you. Go into the BIOS when you start up, go to the "Advanced Menu", scroll down to "Chip Configuration" and hit enter to go into that menu, there should be a line called "Graphics Apperture Size" and set it to 128mb. That should be all there is to it. Oh, and hit F10 to save and exit.
I am wondering though... did the computer come installed with your video card or did you add it. The BIOS setting should have been correctly set when that card was installed. |

I actually found the AGP apture size in the advanced tab under chip configuration and it show it as being [128MB]. I didn't change anything because the message I got said to increase my AGP Apture and I thought that 128MB was already high, everyone I talk to says that 64MB is default. I don't know what I should do???????

Yes, 64MB is default. But you can increase it up to half the system RAM with no problems.
Leave it at 128. |

I installed it myself 1yr. ago. Never had any problems with any other games. I am not sure why this one is messing up.

So if it is good at 128MB, why is this game telling me to increase it? do I have some other problem somewhere??

If you have 512 in RAM try increasing it up to 256.
If the game keeps misbehaving, the problem is somewhere else. |

I increased my graphics apture from 128 to 256MB and I am still getting the same problem. I am going crazy. What else could be the problem. Please help, I'm getting desperate.

I tried decreasing my graphics apture to 64MB and it caused the system to freeze during gameplay, I had to reboot and I set the apture back to 128MB. Anyone have any other ideas????

Here's something you might try. I play quite a few games (not Soldier of Fortune though), and I often check game forums for tips and tricks. Quite often the game forums have good advice for technical problems encountered with a game. See if you can search and find a forum for Soldier of Fortune 2... afterall, your prblem does seem to be specific for that game. Oh, and there might be a game patch available if others have ad the same issue. Almost every game eventually has several patches.
Good luck. |

My AGP is running at 4x and the game is 600x800, I checked out a SOF2 forum and it said to try doing a "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" to close everything off except Explorer and Systray. I did that and it seems to be working better. I'll have to try it a few mor times just to make sure. Thanks a lot to everyone for all of your help, hopefully that was the trick.

That game has proven to be a resource hog for some ppl. Like me. I had to run it at medium detail.
