BSOD in XP
Hello,
maybe someone can help... whenever I play 3d intensive games, I get a BSOD after a while (about 1/2 hr +). It points to some NV40 dll. I updated the drivers and still happens, its like the system ran out of resources or something. Its very frustating and happens all the time. Ive a GE2Pro running in my system. |

Did you *completely* remove the old drivers before installing the new ones?

Gee... never thought of that, I just installed it over the old ones. Thanks I'll try it tonight.
*EDIT* BTW... is there any specific way of doing that or just go to uninstall? Last edited by 9600baud; 04-03-2003 at 03:20 PM. |

Well, you can just use the Add/Remove Programs applet, but I do this(I got it from the Guru3D forums. Just replace 'ATI' with 'nVidia' where applicable):
"1) Uninstall the current ATI control panel in Add/Remove Programs. (i guess u can skip this one ) 2) Reboot up into Safe Mode.(F8 key) 3) Uninstall both display devices show in Device Manager. Then DO NOT reboot. 4) Using Windows Explorer, locate and delete any ATI folders found in C: and also those in C:\Program Files. DO NOT reboot yet. (Find any traces of nvidia driver files under c:\windows\system32\drivers) 5) In the Registry delete any ATI folders and keys found in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE section. (In your case the Nvidia entries) NOW Install your card 6) Boot up in Standard VGA mode. 7) Install new driver. Reboot. 8) Install new ATI Control Panel. Reboot. #2 I don't know about that but if u got a fairly new system like 2000 built and earlier you shouldn't have any problem. #3 Yes do remove all drivers and everything from Nvidia prior to installing your new card. I was so exceeded when i got my new card that i forgot to clean up the registry, end result no hardware video acceleration....." |
