"Smallest" 17" Flatscreen Monitor
Hey, I Gotta Spot For One Of My LAN Systems Here, But I Used to Have a 15" Monitor There, I'm Going To Replace It With A 17", But I Remember The Whole Reasoning I Put A 15" There Was Because It's A 2' Deep Spot And A 17" Would Suck Up All The Keyboard Space, Anyway, I Just Wondered If Anyone Knows Of A Monitor Thats Flatscreen 17" Thats Less Than 16" Deep...Like.. 14" ..Even 15" Would Do...

The Samsung 753DF is exactly 16" from face to rear.

Would you be able to mount the monitor on the wall or get one of those mounts to get your monitor off the desk? Because your circumstance of limited space, have you looked at getting a LCD monitor?

do not forget that the 15 inch LCD = a 17 inch CRT when it comes to screen size

Well... close, but not quite... a 17" CRT is usually 16" viewable area, where a 15" LCD is a true 15" viewable, so you lose an inch. But if you're replacing a 15" CRT, you're gaining an inch, plus valuable desktop space by using a 15" LCD.

Yea...But I'm A Avid Gamer, And LCD Screens Refresh Rates Don't Go Up To 100Hz ( MY Settings Are Usually 1024x768, 32bit, 100hz ) And That Odd Blurring Effect When Something Moves Isn't So Hot In FPS's ...The Thought Crossed My Mind..But. Unless I Can Find One With AT LEAST a 72hz Refresh I Doubt Highly That MY Eyes Could Bear It ...

I HAD A 15" LCD At One Point, But I Sold It To One Of My Friends Exactly For Those Reasons.....Although They Might Have Fixed Alot Of Those Problems In The Newer Models, Seeing As I Got It RIGHT When LCD's Where New.......... And I JUST Thought Of Something; Whould The DVI Connection Clear Anything Up Picture Wise? That "Might* Be A Possibility..

Nobody makes a 17 inch "short neck" monitor any more - just 19 inchers, and they are 16+ inches deep. The shortest 17's I'm seeing right now are like 15.6 inches.

I think its amazing just how much monitors have improved, my 19" NEC AccuSync 90 is noticably shorter in depth than my old 15" Compaq 1024.

Oh Crud, It Looks Like LCD is The Only Way To Go Now.....I Was Reading Up On Them, Apperently Sence The Days When I Looked At A LCD They've Improved The Timings To About 16ms, Which Is ALOT Better Than The 30+ms I First Saw, But...Is 16ms Still Going to Blurr When Movement Is On The Screen At Such A Rate That UT Is Going To Be Annoying? And I Remeber The Refresh Rates Being Only 60hz, Personally I Find 60hz Too Uncomfortable For Viewing..And Perfer A Much More Eye Friendly 100hz Refresh. Does Anyone Know If They Make....Oh, Say A 72hz Refresh Rate LCD Yet?? ( I *Think* 72hz Was Flicker Free...)

The only solution I see to whether or not you will find an LCD acceptable is to go to a computer retailer and try them out. It should not be a problem to be able to try UT on one of them before you make a purchase.

60 Hz is not uncomfortable on a LCD because it doesn't flicker like a CRT. All it's doing is refreshing pixels, not redrawing the whole screen with the electron guns. Every modern LCD I've used can be set to 75 Hz anyway. Bottom line - if your only real concern is flicker, don't worry, they don't. DVI is noticeably clearer than analog.
