creative inspire Vs amp system ?
I recently got a mobo that supports 5.1 sound and I am wondering if i should get me some 5.1 speakers.
my mobo is an abit nf7s . currently it 's connected to my kenwood KRV8090 amplifier (quite a good one ) with 4 speakers (no surround ), just 2 on front and 2 on rear. Now i saw this Creative Inspire 5.1 5100 for 90 euro at my local shop. its a lot cheaper that getting me 2 good surround speakers for my amp, but will these give me some decent sound (as i won't be able to hook everything up at the same time :-) i mainly use the pc in question for gaming (fps, strategy) and mp3 listening and watching video (rarely dvd, mostly what i record from tv) are there any others in this range that are good? i live in belgium, so less known brands will prolly be unfindable over here.

Would depend on the quality of the speakers you're currently using, but unless you're looking to spend 300 dollars + on computer speakers, you might have trouble exceeding the sound quailty you get from an external receiver.
The Creative set probably won't match the sound you have now, but the high-end Klipsch and Logitechs will .

my current speakers are 100 w 3 way speakers, not top quality but they're ok.
300 bucks is waay over what i want to spend on a 5.1 system. For that price i can get me some real surround speakers for my amp. So guess it wont be worth it for me. Thanks for the info. |

The main thing you gain with the external receiver and home stereo speakers is enough power to space the speakers out and fill the room you're in (which is a big part of why they'll sound better).
Computer speakers, being so small, rarely do that very well. The Klipsch and Logitech 400 watt + speakers are able to, but that's why they cost so much. |

I see, well the room where the pc is in is about 5 on 6 metres. I understand how those smaller speakers wont do as well as my stereo.
So my best solution is simply a couple of good surround speakers on top of my rear speakers. I think i should find some good ones under 200 € , and thats still a whole lot less than those good quality 5.1 speakers . Thanks for the info |

Actually for about $150 you can pick up the Logitech Z-560's which are very very awesome, I've heard them quite a few times and they are really nice.

i just looked up on the local stores websites and over here, i found
Logitech Z-560 4.1 400W THX Certified 239.11EUR , which is too much for me. And those are only 4.1 speakers. i live in belgium, VTA is very high around here (21%) and prices arent too good even w/o the btw. often its cheaper to go across the border to germany or so (which is only a few hours drive) I think i should follow Xayd and further build my home stereo system. No computer set can live up to that when i have all the speakers i want for it. |

Yeah thats a pretty bad price, considering the $1 ~ 1 euro (right?). They are good speakers for $150, but not for $240
