External MIDI device and Windows XP

When I had windows 98 with a Sound Blaster Live 5.1, I could get MIDIs to play through my piano keyboard. I just had to go into control panels, sound and multimedia, and one of the tabs I could select the output for MIDIs. I chose MIDI out or somehting, and it would play through my keyboard.

Then, when I got windows XP it didn't work anymore. After a while I got a hercules Fortissimo III. I just tried getting MIDI to play through my keyboard again today, and it doesn't work still. I have the latest drivers for the card and I select for MIDI Music Playback: "GFIII 7.1 Ext. MIDI". All I get is no sound from anywhere when I try to play a MIDI. I'm a little sad. I liked playing MIDIs through my keyboard. So, does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I can't seem to find anything about it on google. TIA.
