nVidia SoundStorm vs. Creative Audigy
Just got the Asus A7N8X Deluxe and it has onboard nVidia SoundStorm audio technology.
http://snurl.com/16dp FiringSquad claims that the digital output of SoundStorm is superior to my Audigy Gamer dedicated sound card. I have a two speaker/Subwoofer setup so that means I should stick with my Audigy because it's better than the analog output of the SoundStorm. Do you own a SoundStorm mobo and what would you do? What's YOUR cut on which sound is better? TIA,

i use a audigy 2, have used onboard sound. i think the audigy works better. but most people really won't be able to tell the difference. plus i think the sound was better on the nforce 1. wolfie |

The Asus isn't actually SoundStorm certified anymore. Maybe it's sound quality isn't quite up to par?

i have the abit nf7s with onboard soundstorm, and i am more that pleased with it. It has all the functions my friends audigy has, and the volume levels on mine are A LOT better adjustable.
i have it connected to my stereo system, and i doubt if an audigy would do a lot better on my setup. the sound qualitly is more that good enough (off course my amp does add to this) i believe i saw a post by cricket a few weeks ago that nforce2 is better for game sound and the audigy is better for music or something. Only have tested my nforce with games and i like it very much. i would n't know why i need an even better soundcard. Were not musicians or so.

OKAY
After many hours of game play and music and video listening, I've come to the clear and definite conclusion that AUDIGY sounds significantly better than the onboard Soundstorm. I'm using analog speakers and headphones. |

As analog the ss is poor sounding, just like every other nforce onboard, while the audigy is noticeabley better at analog reproduction. As far as digital goes, there may be a tossup.

Ya... from what little I've read, SS is giving the Audigy a run for it's money... If it's just for gaming and just output, it's one thing, but for total usability I still go with the Audigy Platinum for all the extra inputs. I have a VCR, DVD, a mike, cassette deck thru an equalizer, and headphones all hooked up, with inputs to spare. Not to mention two more FireWire ports. Don't think you can do that with on-board sound of any kind.
