ATI 64MB or 128MB?
Hey all,
Trying to buy a better video card for my system, so I can enjoy the nice graphics from Dark Age of Camelot. Although the Video requirements for the game are only 32MB, but the expansion requires 64MB. The video cards that I am looking at are Ati Radeaon 9500 64MB and the Radeaon 9500 128MB. Checked out pricewatch.com & they are selling for the same price. IS the more memory really necessary? Thanks guys! One more thing..My friend was telling me how ATI is cheap with the benchmarks. He said they include a "chip" on the card that holds all of the Quake 3 commands which that way makes it better benchmarks. I laughed when he said that, but just wanted to ask you guys about it.. Is it best to reinstall Direct X once you do a video card switch? Last edited by Markoman01027; 04-19-2003 at 03:33 PM. |

Yes if you want all the eye-candy.
No, there is no on-board chip for Quake3. If you're switching from one Radeon card to another you may not need to reinstall DX. I usually check by running dxdiag. If it's an NVidia card you're replacing you may, I say may, end up doing a reformat unless the detonator destroyers work for you. Last edited by pam123; 04-19-2003 at 03:54 PM. |

I *always* reinstall DirectX after changing a video card or a video driver on general principle. Yes, in my opinion it's best.
If the 64mb and 128mb cards are close to the same price, that's a no-brainer. |
