i built a computer last summer for the first time. With the other parts i bought, i also bought a $100 (at the time) sound card- a turtle beach santa cruz. Later on i received a cd-rw for my computer as well. but after i installed the cd-rw and the driver and such, my sound didnt work at all. I tried every outlet and all the tests that the santa cruz offers, but no sound. then i plugged it into the onboard sound card and it works. I cannot figure out how to change it back to the much better quality of the cruz. This is really pissing me off because i have a 100 dollar part sitting in my computer and its perfectly fine!! i posted this before and someone told me to disable the onboard in bios. i tried this but couldnt figure out where or how to disable it. any help is greatly appriciated!

I have to think that it *is* a conflict with the onboard sound. Nose around in your BIOS and see if there are any sound-related options. Also, try completely un-installing the onboard sound drivers.

You don't need to uninstall the drivers, just disable it in your BIOS. Try consulting your motherboard manual.

Aperture isn't that critical - anything between 64 and 256 should be fine, try 128.
