I am planning on ordering all of my parts for a new PC tommarow, and everything looks good except I ran into this: I searched on Pricewatch and found a Radeon 9700 at www.Gameve.com for $258. This is a good thing because of the decent price (compared to $300 at Best Buy or Newegg), but is there something I am not seeing? Is this not a real 9700 pro? Will they ship a 9700 and hope I don't notice? Is it broken? Here is the link: Radeon 9700 Pro #1
I am very confused because of the big price difference and on the SAME site they have another Radeon 9700 pro for $300. Here is the link for the second card: 9700 Pro #2 Someone please point out whats wrong here and give me some advice of if I should buy from here or not. Thank you very much for the help! |

The first video card is "Powered by ATI" and is not specifically made by them. It is made by a third-party vendor such as Sapphire or Powercolor. Also, the first card has it's memory running at 3.3 nanoseconds. The second card appears to be "Built by ATI" (although right under it it says Powered by ATI, so I'm a bit confused) and is manufactured directly by them. It's memory is running at 2.8 nanoseconds which is probably why there is a price difference. They are both 9700 Pros so if you buy the first and they only send you a 9700 then you can certainly complain about false advertising. I'm not certain how much the .5 nanosecond memory speed difference affects performance, but I'd get the cheaper of the two since they are both 9700 Pros and run on the same chipset, etc.
