sound card question

Like when a sound card says like 4.1. Does that mean 4 main spekers and a sub or what? Cause im a gamer and have a 4 piece speaker set and a sub.

Thanks

Yes, the first number indicates the number of speakers and the .1 means there is a subwoofer.

2.1 = 2 speakers and a sub
4.1 = 4 speakers and a sub
5.1 = 5 speakers and a sub

I think you get the picture. When a sound card says it is 4.1 or 5.1 it means that it is capable of handling up to that speaker setup and has the necessary connections for it.

They're up to 7.1, correct?
