crashes w/video
Hi; my son is having a problem with video downloading and uploading on a computer I assembled for him recently.
Asus TUA266 MoBo, w/Ali Apollo Pro 5T chipset (M1651T and M1535D), PIII 1.13ghz. tualatine processor, 512 PC2100 ram (brand name, but I forget which. Micron I think.), XTASY 5564, 2X AGP video card, (w/ 64 MB memory, 200MHZ processor speed, 256 bit GPU) Aureal 3D sound card, Diamond Max 60 gig, 7200 rpm HDD, Firewire. When he tries to play video from any location, such as from his hard drive, or from the net, he has to re-boot. Still pictures display fine, and he has no trouble with graphics or text. Just as a note, this very video card is shown in the manual that came with the MoBo, so I figure it should be compatable. I also have the drivers that came with the card, except I had to have a friend dowload drivers for "XP" I am not trained in computer technology, just took on the challenge of trying to build another computer. As simple as it is to assemble parts into a whole, I find it rewarding when it all comes together, and works, as it did with my first build. The problem is, WHAT DO I DO WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK? Call on you guys for help I guess. Mike |

Is he using WMP to play the video? If not, which program?

Alienware_Dude:
Thanks for your reply. He uses WMP, we assume. Nothing else has been loaded, and it would be whatever comes up with XP. Mike |

When you say he has to reboot, do you mean the system locks up? Or, it won't play until he reboots and tries again.
Edit: Oops, I thought the video card memory was his system memory! Last edited by Alienware_Dude; 04-24-2003 at 01:15 PM. |

The screen goes black and a box comes up that says shut down windows. Press OK and it shuts down. Aparently he has only tried in XP, so I don't know if it is doing the same in W98. It might be a driver problem. I will have to wait for tonight to get more info.
