Any way to get 5.1 audio for me?

I have klipsch promedia 5.1s, and a soundblaster live 5.1 sound card, but no dvd player. is there any way to get 5.1 sound of any kind? so far i can get it to play out of the main four, but not the center. i'd just like to make sure the center is working.

thanks

Howdy Foost...

the following comes from the Creative Labs website...

"True 5.1 surround will only come from sources whose audio is an encoded AC-3 signal, such as DVD movies. This means that there is a separate signal going to each speaker. You can emulate 5.1 surround with other sources of audio. CD audio, wave files and mp3 files are all stereo signals. This means that there are only two channels, left and right. If you choose CMSS, Creative Multi-speaker surround in PlayCenter, it will play these audio formats out of all 5 speakers, but there will still only be two channels of audio, left and right. "

Hope that helps!

If your not going to be watching DVD movies on the computer then there is no reason to get a DVD drive. Playing music through a DVD drive isn't going to make the center channel work. The center channel will only be used when playing from a source that has been recorded to take advantage of the technology.

Very true qwert...nothing beats playing a game in 5.1 surround sound.

Surge, yeah, i know, but at this point, why not just get it...

Qwert, no, i don't. I really wasn't planning on any of this, but my home audio dealer gave me these 5.1s at an absolutely ridiculous price, so i went for it. Then i wanted a better/5 channel card so i could at least get 4 channel stereo... now, considering i own a bunch of DVDs including music dvds, i figure it's worth it to drop $40 on one...
