If your mobo has a VIA chipset, avoid creative sound cards for best stability.

Hi,

If you don't want to buy a Creative card, go ahead and check into the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. HTH

Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo III is an excellent card, has dolby digital/EX 7.1 and the sound quality is great, all for $50-60. I have one in my computer, my mobo has a VIA KT266a chipset and has had no problem.

I second the Hercules. I bought it to replace my SoundBlaster Live! after I went to through driver hell with it. Great sound quality, room for expansion, and very cheap.
