Soundblaster
Hi guys,
I've just finished off my first build and everything seemed to be running fine. Until I played Grand theft Auto 3 for the 3rd time. Now whenever i play this game the sound is really strange, there is a buzzy sound and all the sounds have a nasty robotic echo. Thinking it was the game i downloaded the patch and this didn't help things. I then tried another game, (Unreal Tournament) and had a similar problem. My Soundcard is a Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital and I'm using Harmon Kardon 595 speakers on them. Also when i enable the digital output all i get is a crackle and pop noise through the speakers. When running in normal Analog mode in windows XP my speakers work fine and sound great but games sound really bad. I checked the Creative website and it looks as if i have the most up to date drivers. So I have no clue as to whats wrong...... Hope you guys can help Cheers, |

Just to update:
When i run unreal tournament in full screen mode i get the nasty robotic echos in both the menu and in the actual game. However when i run it in windowed mode, I still get them in the menu but not in the actual game which sounds crystal clear... again. I don't have many games on my sytem yet, but Sim City 4 runs fine with no sound problems at all. If any of you have any questions about my setup/the problem Hope someone can help me out as I'm out of ideas as of what it could be. Thanks |

Is it an AMD/Via setup by any chance?
If so Creative cards usually won't work until the 4 in 1 drivers are installed. |

plus if you dont have digital speakers the digital box in the 5.1 should not be checked.

And make sure the sound card is not in the first PCI slot, the one next to the AGP.

No the board is in the 2nd PCI slot. But i have (kind of fixed the problem)
After buying 2 New games i then ran GTA3 afterwards and it worked. So now, i have to run Splinter Cell, then quit it immediately and then load up GTA3, A bit of a pain but hey, it works. As for the Speakers, they're designed for soundblasters as they have a yellow (digital), black (rear) and green (stereo) sockets. I used them on my last Pc which was a Soundblaster live 1024! So I am still unsure as to why that doesn't work but hey. At least my sound works in GTA which is what i wanted. Thanks for the advice anyway though. |
