SB Live! value card and xp
Hi, i have the Sound Blaster Live! value sound card. I redid my system, so of couse i needed to install drivers and wanted to get the most up-to-date ones. In ME, i went on, got the right drivers and installed them and everything worked fine. Then, in XP, i got the right ones, but there is no sound. I have levels turned up, digital out put for my digital speakers, its listed in device manager and says its working properly.
Any suggestions? thanks

Try going into your bios and disabling your on board sound.

Btw, the standard xp drivers work so i have sound, but i would really like to have the good ones with options and stuff. |

It could be that the drivers are not WHQL certified and XP is over riding them.

No, you can easily install non-WHQL certified drivers without a problem, provided they will still do their job. If you can get it some how, try an earlier version of the drivers. Also, when you install the new sound drivers, try the following:
1. Uninstall old drivers from Add/Remove Programs, or from the Device Manager if they don't show up in Add/Remove Programs 2. Restart in safe mode, this way Windows will NOT automatically install its default drivers 3. Install Creative drivers, and restart the computer I have had some trouble with Creative drivers in the past. Also, try downloading the drivers again, as I guess it is possible they got corrupted some how. Remember to check all volume levels in the software controls, and check all of the other settings. It is very possible you just have things muted or disabled and that is the source of your problem.

Yes you can easily install non-WHQL drivers ok in XP......
But, I have seen this cause a problem with Creative drivers, where XP insists on using it's own regardless, also have seen it do this with 3DFX drivers!!! As an aide have you updated to SP1? |

I have same setup but have not ventured to download the creative's drivers, I've just let XP's drivers dod the job.
