sound card setup
I have just re-installed my ESS sound card (very basic / cheap) and it does not seem to respond.
I go into sounds from control panel and it cannot play anything. I let win 98se install the drivers. But still is wrong _ any ideas??? thx in advance. abubilal@rogers.com (for faster replies)

Can you post your system specs? Does your motherboard have a built in sound card? You say you reinstalled the sound card... was it not working before? Try taking it out of the PCI slot and reseating it and then reinstalling the drivers for it.

Hi,
First thing to check would be whether something is muted that shouldn't be in the Volume Control panel, and your speakers are hooked up correctly. Also double check in device manager to make sure everything was installed correctly and there aren't any yellow exclamation points next to the soundcard signaling a conflict. Lastly, if all those things turn out ok, you might want to check to see if there are updated drivers for your card. HTH |

I actually can't load my volume control. Besides it shouldn't really matter. I should be able to play any of the system sounds from control panel>sounds... but I cannot even fo that. The small black triangle that U click on to get it to play, stays grey.
The sound card isn't built in 2 the board. I had removed it to see if this 'other' S.c ard would work. (it didn't). There are no exclamation points in the dev mgr. I went to the ESS tech site and got the latest (I think) drivers and installed them. Perhaps I should just go find the old ones! Thx 4 ya help BTW. abubilal@rogers.com |

For a good range of drivers go to here and log in with
U/N Drivers P/W All The symptoms that you are having would indicate that the drivers are either incorrect or not installed correctly.
