Win Movie Maker crash to desktop

When using Window's Movie Maker- everytime I click on a movie editing button (transitions, effects, etc.), the program immediately closes without saving and returns me to the desktop. This happens when editing videos and pictures, also occurs even if there aren't any pictures being edited.

Is there a way to uninstall and then reinstall Movie Maker? Is there some other fix?

Same thing happens to me as well. Have you downloaded the latest version of it through Windows Update? I'm not sure there's a way to uninstall it...kinda like Media Player or Internet Explorer.

Interesting- yes I downloaded the latest version from the Microsoft site and installed it but it didn't make a difference.

What version of Windows XP are you running? I'm using XP Pro Service Pack 1. Maybe its a bug or something.

Using XP Home with all the updates. I have XP pro on my laptop and Movie Maker works fine. Problem is a nonissue now, though, because I bought a video capture card that came with editing software that works better than Movie Maker.

Do you have a camera connected to your PC while you are trying to work in the program?

No I don't. I also tried using it after closing all other programs (e.g, virus scans, etc.) but the samething happens. I have the latest drivers for my video and soundcard.
