Why can I only get 2 or 16 colors on my monitor?

I had to reformat my HDD when I reinstalled windows 98 I was able to get everything back to the way it was except the monitor. I can only get it to display in 2 or 16 colors. Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Have you downloaded the correct drivers for the video or are you still using the Microsoft ones? What video card are you using?

Shouldn't there be drivers in windows 98 that would work? I dont need the latest and greatest drivers. It worked before I reformated my HDD.

No, 98 does not have SiS 6326 drivers. If this is an integrated graphics chip on the motherboard, the CD that came with the motherboard has the drivers, if this is a video card, the CD that came with the card has the drivers. If you open Device Manager right now, I'd bet that the display adapter is listed as "Standard VGA" or something like that.

Did you download the drivers? If so, they have to be less than 1.4 MB in size or they won't fit on a floppy disk. I take it don't have a CD-burner? Are they a bunch of files or a single install program? If they are less than 1.4 MB, then just drag them to the floppy drive and Windows will copy them to the floppy
