NVidia fights back....

It looks like they finally got their act together with the FX 5900 and now ATI is coming out with the 3.4s and a new card for the fall.
Long live competition !
This FX looks like the real deal, read review here:http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030512/index.html

It's even winning in 4X FSAA, one of the problems that plagued NV30.

And a 256 MB version!

I bet people who bought the 5800 won't be too happy though.

I think NVidia has just learned, the hard way, to respect their customers.
I hope the lesson sticks and I hope ATI was taking notes.

How did NVidia disrespect its customers?

Now you just have to hope that NVidia forces the manufactures who use their chips to build the cards correctly and with quality. Probably be a cold day in hell before that happens though.

What do you think they thought of the people they were going to sell the FX 5800 ultra to?
Besides, hard of hearing?

Blak - in my opinion, the image quality of Nvidia cards is a lot better than it used to be. It's still not up to ATI or Matrox standards though.

i dont understand why the image quality can't be up to snuff. I wouldn't mind one of these bigger fx cards but i would want to be 100% happy. I wouldn't be too happy if i knew the image quality was lacking. (photo editing etc.)

on the ATi and Nvidia machines ive been on, (quite a few,. my college has like 4000 computers in it) i have seen virtually no difference form PC to PC, i think this image quality thing is another little rumour blown out of proportion

The mon can have some to do with it, but in the end, the card makes or breaks image quality. If you look closely at two cards output, you would see a diff. Nvid uses poor image quality as it is faster to do in the card. Simple as that. If you could force an ati card to look the same image wise as an nvid, the ati card would probably get a 30% boost in speed.
The image quality diff should be very apparent in 2d desktop work, let alone 3d games.

Well they needed a high-end card to sell... the FX 5800 just didn't turn out as planned. It was using brand-new technology, these things don't always work out the first time. Just about every technology company has sold stuff that was overhyped, overpriced, or just plain sucked. It has nothing to do with NVidia being disrespectful to customers.

We disagree and you are far more forgiving then I am.
The 5800 may have been an honest error initially but when they let the marketing types try and hide it's problems the error quit being honest.
I consider pulling scams the hight of disrespect which is why I said that I " hoped ATI was taking notes".
NVidia FX 5800 debacle is an example of "what not to do".
I realize that NVidia's losses on the 5800 won't stop most of the business as usual types but it may cut down on the "group-think" that turns a product into a scam and treats customers as suckers.

At least nVidia can learn from their mistakes. But I would like to know what they were thinking when they released it. I mean, did they think that people, including the hardcore community, would just ignore it's obvious shortcomings and buy it out of blind faith or something? It would have been better if they just skipped it and went straight to NV35 - which still looks lackluster compared to near 1 year old technology.
